I’m Amanda, the sewist and owner of Silent Bear Stitching.

I sew high quality bags, as well as other personal and household items. I primarily source material from other small businesses and my favorite materials to use are quilt weight cotton, cotton canvas, faux leather, and cork. I enjoy experimenting with colors and different materials and metals to create truly unique and one-of-a-kind items.

I love cats, books, the horror genre, and anything weird, spooky, or mysterious, and that often finds its way into my makes. I also have an appreciation for soft, feminine prints, cheeky zipper pulls, earth tones, and everything in between, so it would be hard to narrow down my work into one style.

My hope for this space is to be a central hub for my businesses and a portfolio and blog of sorts as this artistic journey evolves.

I hope you can learn more about me as I post more content. I’d love to hear from you; you can email me at silentbearstitching@gmail.com

You can also find me at craft fairs and markets in the DC/MD/VA metro region & Hampton Roads, VA, dates here.

I stole my business name from my husband.

It doesn’t mean anything significant to me, but it’s a silly joke between my husband and his college friends who played soccer for the WashU Bears. He always liked it as a name for a brewery, but he threw it out there when I was trying to come up with ideas, and it stuck. My logo is designed after a bear paw quilt block, and quilting is where it all started for me.

My grandmother was a great seamstress.

She made clothes for the people she loved and she was an artist at heart. I didn’t learn to sew from her but she is the reason I sew now.
